Be sure to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes such as sneakers or other supportive shoes with rubber soles. Also, do not eat or drink anything except water for at least two hours before your test and avoid anything with caffeine (coffee, tea, soda or chocolate) for 12 hours before the test. If you’re a smoker, do not smoke for two hours before the test. Your physician will have recommendations that you should follow before a cardiac stress test.
