BEDSIDE MUSIC PROGRAM

YRMC’s Bedside Music program offers the soothing sounds of acoustic music to all hospitalized patients who request the music or have it requested on their behalf. Hospital volunteers provide the service free of charge, playing music that is appropriate for every kind of patient in all areas of the hospital.

The healing power of music has been noted throughout history. Live music, played softly at the bedside, is a calming experience that often absorbs patients and promotes peaceful and relaxed feelings. Soothing music is known to have a healthful effect on respiration, pulse rate, temperature and pain responses. Bedside Music is not a concert, but a service to patients. No verbal response or applause is expected.

The hospital’s volunteer musicians also provide music that is played in the waiting areas, front lobbies, cafeterias and hallways on both YRMC campuses.
