The Total Healing Environment

History of Yavapai Regional Medical Center

Since being incorporated in April 1942, Yavapai Regional Medical Center – the Prescott area’s community hospital – has seen a lot of change. What started as a simple, small-town hospital in the old Jefferson School building on Marina Street is today a state-of-the-art hospital system with two campuses, one in Prescott and one in Prescott Valley, and an ever-growing selection of high-quality programs and services, all designed to meet the healthcare needs of our communities.

Growth and positive change are a familiar fact of life at YRMC, but what has not changed – and will never change – is the comfort we offer and the compassion we feel. These will forever remain.

The cornerstone of the 21st century Yavapai Regional Medical Center is a Healing Team led by a community-based board of trustees, a trusted group of experienced administrators and the scores of concerned physicians in multiple specialties who form the YRMC Medical Staff. Complementing this outstanding leadership are the skills, training and competence of hundreds of professional nurses, therapists, technicians, support personnel and volunteers. But that’s just the beginning of the YRMC story.

Yavapai Regional Medical Center West

YRMC West, our 135-bed, acute-care facility in Prescott, has grown steadily over the years, expanding upward and outward, adding beds and new services, and earning widespread recognition for quality care. In 2006, our already stellar reputation was further enhanced when YRMC West was named one of America’s 100 Top Hospitals. Among its many services, YRMC West offers patients:

YRMC Del E. Webb Outpatient Center

In response to the area’s growing population and the resulting demand on YRMC’s healthcare resources, we opened the two-story YRMC Del E. Webb Outpatient Center in Prescott Valley, in 1997, to provide imaging services, preventive medicine and physical rehabilitation. YRMC’s hospice and home health services are also located here, along with office space for private physicians. In 2002, YRMC, in a joint venture with community partners, opened the YRMC Health Services Building adjacent to the outpatient center. This was a forerunner of things to come.

Yavapai Regional Medical Center East

YRMC announced in the late 1990s that it would be building an entirely new hospital – YRMC East – in Prescott Valley. Again, we were responding to the healthcare needs of our growing communities.

After years of planning and construction, the 50-bed, state-of-the-art YRMC East opened in May 2006 to serve all area residents. Located on 37 acres to provide room for future expansion, YRMC East incorporates colors inspired by nature, natural lighting and many other soothing design elements that research has shown will promote healing. All of the rooms are private, and there is space for families to be together. Services include:

Looking to the Future

For the past few years, YRMC has averaged at least 100 births a month at the Family Birthing Center on the campus of YRMC West in Prescott. Space – or the lack of it – is at times a real problem for the Birthing Center, and since there is no more room at YRMC West for further expansion, plans are now under way to build a new Women’s Health Pavilion & Family Birthing Center at YRMC East.

The new facility, when it opens in 2010, will cover approximately 45,000 square feet and offer everything from labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum rooms to a Level II nursery and prenatal education and support. Yet again, YRMC is fulfilling its Mission: To provide comprehensive, high-quality healthcare consistent with our communities’ needs.

At Yavapai Regional Medical Center, healing is more than a job, more than a business. It’s our calling … and we’re proud of it.
